About This Item

Available In-Store, Pickup and Delivery in London with Southwest Pet's own Drivers.  Not currently available for Shipping.Scientific Name: Betta splendensstrong>Description: A Twin Tail Betta Male has a dramatic divided caudal fin that creates a balanced, double-tail appearance. Like other domestic bettas, he is intelligent, interactive and best kept as the only male betta in a warm, gently filtered aquarium. Broad-leaved plants, resting places near the surface and smooth décor protect his delicate fins. Feed a high-quality betta pellet with occasional frozen foods, and avoid strong currents or persistent fin-nipping tank mates. Each male has an individual temperament, so community compatibility should always be monitored carefully.

Adult Size: 5-7 cm (2-2.8 in), excluding extended finsTemperature Range: 24-30 C (75-86 F); 25-28 C idealpH Range: 6.0-8.0Hardness (GH/KH): 5-19 dGH; low-moderate KH

Minimum Tank Size: 20 L / 5 US gal minimum for one; larger is easier to maintain

Temperment: Males territorial toward other male bettas; otherwise variable but often suitable with calm tank mates

Diet: Carnivorous/insectivorous; quality betta pellets plus small frozen/live foods

Natural Habitat/Origin: Mekong basin and surrounding Southeast Asian wetlands; domestic forms are captive bred

Swimming Level: Upper to middle levels

Schooling Requirements: Not a schooling fish; keep males singly. Females require careful management and ample space if kept together.

Compatible Species: Peaceful small rasboras, Corydoras, kuhli loaches, some snails and calm community fish; compatibility varies by individual

Species to Avoid: Other male bettas, fin-nipping barbs/tetras, aggressive gouramis, large cichlids and fish that resemble rival bettas

Breeding Notes: Bubble-nest builder. Male tends eggs and fry; breeding pair must be supervised and separated at the appropriate stages.

Special Considerations: Needs warm, clean water, gentle flow, surface access and a secure lid. Individual temperament varies. Long fins are prone to tearing and may hinder swimming.
